Algae.Tec partners with Radient for nutraceutical extraction

Sydney, Australia-based Algae.Tec Limited has entered into a research agreement with natural compound extraction company Radient Technologies Inc., of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Under the Agreement, Algae.Tec will utilize RTI’s extraction technology as the final step in the production of high-value algae-based products for supply into the global nutraceutical market.

A key focus will be on the extraction of high quality lipid content from Algae.Tec’s algae powders, with initial algae samples having already being shipped to Radient’s facility in Edmonton. First results from this extraction testing are expected to be received in Q3 18.

Algae.Tec’s announcement states that Radient’s proprietary Microwave Assisted Processing (MAP™) technology has successfully demonstrated over the last decade increasing the yield and consistency of the active ingredients from plants, including algae, in a cost-efficient manner.

“This is a significant partnership for Algae.Tec as it will enable us to leverage RTI’s superior extraction technology, and it represents one of the final steps in the production of a variety of products for the high-end nutraceuticals market. The global nutraceuticals market provides a compelling opportunity for the business and we look forward to providing our shareholders with the outcomes of this first round of extraction testing this quarter,” said Algae.Tec Limited’s Executive Chairman and Managing Director, Mal James.
