Jody Burgess has been selected as the new President and CEO of Phenometrics.

Phenometrics, Inc., a Lansing, Michigan-based manufacturer of scientific instruments and software to advance algal research and production, has announced that Jody Burgess has been selected as the new President and CEO. Ms. Burgess assumed the role in July, 2016.

“It is a privilege to be part of an organization focused on such an important mission as improving the world’s shortage of food and fuel,” said Ms. Burgess. “We are organized and driven with a purpose – to collaborate with public and private sectors in all areas of photosynthesis research. One of our key strengths is our close relationship with the talented team at Michigan State University’s Plant Research Laboratory where we have a unique opportunity to tap into innovative solutions that may already be in the works. I am excited to reach out to our customers to get them involved in the process to help them achieve their goals.”

Phenometrics’ flagship product, the Phenometrics Photo Bioreactor (PBR101), is an advanced algae culturing system that allows users to quickly and easily determine the best growth factors for their algae strains. Under Ms. Burgess, Phenometrics will continue to advance the development of their bioreactors and introduce new innovations, including more powerful software (Algal Command), as well as new accessories making it easier to find the best way to culture and optimize algal strains. The firm will be exhibiting at the Algae Biomass Summit in Phoenix, Arizona on October 23.

Prior to her role with Phenometrics, Ms. Burgess served as a Technology Business Consultant for the Michigan Small Business Development Center, focusing on startups. She provided business planning, product and corporate road mapping, and funding guidance. Ms. Burgess also helped build one of Michigan’s most successful software companies, TechSmith, by developing and executing on a global marketing strategy that included intense collaboration with product development and product management teams. She holds an MBA in Business from Northwood University – Richard DeVos Graduate School of Management.
