Algaeventure Systems Moving Toward Pharmaceuticals

ick Rouan writes in Columbus Business First that Marysville, Ohio-based Algaeventure Systems Inc. (AVS) has hired Dr. Guy Carter, a research veteran who retired from pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. in 2010, as its chief scientific officer.
AVS has been doing research and development in pharmaceuticals – as well as developing biofuel technology for four years, observes Rouan, but the hiring of Dr. Carter to lead implementation of the platform is a turning point for the company.
“I guess there’s been a shift up the value chain for what we can produce from the technologies we’ve developed and really we are pursuing a market we never imagined we’d have a capability to penetrate, and that’s pharmaceuticals,” AVS’ CEO Ross Youngs told Columbus Business First. “We’re expecting the efforts we’re undertaking at this stage right now will lead to some pretty rapid growth in this company over the next six months.”
