Algae Companies to Meet with D.C. Legislators

The Annual Legislative Fly-in, where members of the Algal Biomass Organization meet with members of Congress to advocate for the algae industry, is being held on February 29th and March 1st in Washington, D.C.

A legislative briefing on March 1st will feature key speakers from the Senate and the House as well as a state of the industry, including presentations from:

Accelergy Corporation — A Texas-based company using state-of-the art synthetic fuels technologies focused on algae to be converted into clean low-carbon gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.

Algenol Biofuels — A Florida-based company, Algenol is a global, industrial biotechnology company that is commercializing its patented algae technology platform for production of ethanol and green chemicals.

BioProcess Algae — Based in Rhode Island, BioProcess Algae designs, builds, and operates commercial scale bioreactors that enable efficient conversion of light and CO2 into high value microbial feedstock.

General Atomics — A San Diego-based innovation firm with a 50-year history, GA is currently engaged in research and development to demonstrate the commercial viability of the large-scale production of bio-oils and biofuels from microalgae feedstock.

Heliae Corporation — An Arizona-based company, Heliae’s algae technology package is made for co-location near big, unwanted waste streams. Heliae’s technology is designed to cost-effectively convert industrial CO2, wastewater nutrients and free sunlight into valuable fuel, chemicals and bioproducts.

Phycal — An Ohio-based company working on integrated algae technologies with production in Hawaii.

Sapphire Energy — A California-based company with major commercial scale production facilities in New Mexico.

The 2nd Annual Industry Award Reception, where the 2012 ABO Algae Achievement Awards will be presented to several elected officials and agency leaders for their support of the biofuels industry, will be held the evening of March 1.
