The FAFF Initiative was organized by (left) Steve Mayfield, Director, California Center for Algae Biotechnology and Dave Hazlebeck, Founder & Chief Executive Officer Global Algae Innovations.

Algae industry experts are planning to come together October 15-16 at the 2018 Algae Biomass Summit in The Woodlands, Texas, to discuss the Future of Algae for Food and Feed (FAFF) initiative. The initiative’s vision is that algae delivers global, game-changing food and feed solutions, providing an expansion of resources that protects our planet and feeds its growing population. The Fall FAFF Summit assembles visionaries and leaders who plan to establish the main priorities that will extend algae integration into the food and feed markets.

The first 100 FAFF registrants will receive a free copy of Ana Feeds our World: Making the Case for Algae Foods, by Mark R. Edwards. Ana Feeds our World describes how algae provides sustainable and affordable solutions to many of the substantial challenges in the global food supply chain.

The FAFF Executive Committee, comprised of representatives from six organizations within the algae industry, led the first FAFF Summit in May 2018. Key stakeholders engaged from the food and feed sectors, algae production companies, investment community, government, and academia. Over 70 attendees collaborated to identify the essential actions needed to further accelerate algae in the marketplace.

The FAFF Fall Summit meetings will take place Monday, 10/15, from 7-9pm and Tuesday, 10/16, from 12:30-4pm.  FAFF members may attend special breakout sessions sponsored by the ABO Summit’s Innovations in the Algae for Food, Feed and Nutrition track. This unique partnership with the ABO allows access to networking opportunities with algae industry leaders.

Among the goals of the FAFF Fall Summit are:

  1. Determine the structure and priorities for the Center for Innovation & Development.
  2. Establish the 3-year FAFF strategic plan priorities to accelerate algae into the global marketplace.
  3. Determine strategic collaborations and partnerships amongst attendees to accomplish the key priorities.
  4. Discuss current funding opportunities and investments.

Those interested in attending the FAFF meetings are asked to see the invitation for the FAFF Summit agenda and registration on the ABO website. Special discounted registration rates are available for FAFF Fall Summit guests who are first time attendees of the ABO Summit.
