6th Algal BBB conference coming to San Diego

The International Conference on Algal Biomass, Biofuels and Bioproducts will be coming to Paradise Point, San Diego June 26-29. The conference, now in its 6th year, provides direct interaction for attending delegates with scientific and technical leaders in this field. Emphasis will be placed on the latest unpublished technical and scientific results.

The conference is designed to facilitate extended discussion periods, dedicated networking sessions, and exciting technical presentations.

It is set up to cover emerging technologies in all areas of algal research, including microalgae, macroalgae, and cyanobacteria: biology, biomass production, cultivation, harvesting, extraction, biorefinery, feedstock conversion into fuels, bioproducts, and econometrics and sustainability analyses.

This year the program will include special sessions on the latest progress from consortia groups and industry. Themes for the presentations include:

  • Algal Biology — Molecular Traits of Microalgae for Biofuels
  • Algal Biology — Metabolic Regulation of Microalgae for Biofuels
  • Algal Biology — Biodiversity and Bioprospecting of Microalgae for Biofuels
  • Algal Cultivation — Phototrophic Systems in Open Ponds
  • Algal Cultivation — Phototrophic Systems in Photobioreactors
  • Algal Cultivation — Heterotrophic Systems, including utilization of waste waters for algal production
  • Algal Harvesting and Extraction Systems
  • New Conversion Technologies for Algal Biofuels, including catalytic, thermal, and enzymatic systems
  • Bioproducts from Algae Including High-Value Products and Co-products
  • Life Cycle, Technoeconomic, and Sustainability Modeling and Analysis of Algal Production and Fuel Cycle Systems
  • New technologies in support of algal research in the areas of separation, refining, detection and analysis
  • Algal consortia: reports on integrated algal biofuels research efforts, and the latest industry efforts in biofuels and bioproducts

José A. Olivares, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM, is conference chair for the event; and Richard Sayre, also from Los Alamos National Laboratory, is serving as associate chair.
